World Amateur Team & U.S. Team East,
Parsippany New Jersey
Parsippany Hilton, 1 Hilton Ct., Parsippany, N.J. 07054.
We are creating our teams for the U.S. Amateur Team Championships in Parsippany, NJ. This team event is the largest of its kind held in the United States. Four player teams compete against each other in a three-day tournament held February 13-15. The 15th, a Monday, is a national holiday. Players can be of any age, although special plaques are awarded for the top scholastic teams at the elementary, middle, high school, and college levels. Plaques are also awarded for the top mixed doubles (two men and two women), top senior team, top military team, top family team, top team from each surrounding state, and the top team in each rating category. Prizes in the form of free dinners are given to the teams with the most creative chess costume or gimmick. Entry fees are returned to the team with the best chess related name. This year’s theme is the fifties. Our players consider this one of their favorite tournaments of the year.

GETTING THERE
Route 287 avoids the NJ Turnpike/ I-80 route, which can be a pain. The 95/202/287 route described here is actually scenic in spots and has many opportunities for food/gas/rest stops along the way. Travel time is about 90min. with no stops.
Here's a quick description of the route:
Take I-95 north, cross the Delaware River into New Jersey at Washington's Crossing. After the Del. bridge, keep on 95 for about 4 miles to Rte. 31 north. (The Google directions have you go on Rte 529 through Bear Tavern, but that's too complicated if you don't know the area). Stay on 31 for about 10 miles to get to Rte 202. Take 202 east, towards Flemington and Somerville. Go through Flemington and continue on about 12 more miles to Somerville. When you see the big shopping center on your left, stay in the left lane to get onto I-287 north towards Morristown. Continue 21 miles to Morristown - just after Morristown, stay in the right lane and take the Rte. 10 exit towards Dover. About a mile after the exit on rte. 10 is the exit for Dryden Way - take that and then a quick left on Campus drive, then your next left onto Hilton Ct.
